2 New Studies on the Effects of Psilocybin Give Scientists Most Detailed Picture to Date of How Psychedelic Drugs Work

Link to the article is at the bottom.

Basically, there were two individual studies that each reported interesting discoveries. In the first study they found that while under the effects of psilocybin your brain's activety decreases. This contradicts the previous notion that psychedelics are "mind expanding" drugs. It does less work in the main hubs (medial prefrontal cortex and the posterior cingulate cortex) of your brain.

If you consider that many people who take psychedelics normally speak of how they were "enlightened" then this makes sense. The decrease in brain activity could be what makes things more "clear". (Though I am completely speculating this)

The second study found that with the use of psilocybin the volunteer's ability to recollect personal memories were enhanced. What does this mean? Well those who performed the study suggested that use of psilocybin could supplement current psychotherapy practices.

This is all after a study that was conducted last year which found those with anxiety and depression who took a single psilocybin treatment had lower depression scores 6 months later.

Who knows, maybe sometime in the future we could have medical mushrooms.
